This afterschool program is for students in pre-primary to grade 4 at Bayview Community School. Students take the school bus to a stop on Fauxburg Road, where staff greet them around 2:20, then walk together to the Mahone Bay Centre. The program ends at 5:00 PM. During this new and exciting program, we will play fun, cooperative games, explore our surroundings, and do adventurous activities in the woods. We also have access to space at the Mahone Bay Centre for inside activities if it’s wet and cold. However, in good weather, most of the time we will be outside!

Note: if there is no school or school is cancelled, the Afterschool Program will also be cancelled.

Are you interested in building your leadership skills and gaining a high-quality volunteer experience? Sign up for our Junior Leader Program to learn new skills and volunteer your time as a Trailblazers leader at Chester Area Middle School, Chester District School, or Bridgewater Junior High School! This program is aimed at youth who participated in Trailblazers before and have now aged out of the program, but anyone in grade 7+ is welcome to apply!

This free program will begin with an orientation session where Junior Leaders will learn about the program, review the Junior Leader expectations, and get to practice leading activities and games in a safe and supportive environment. This 2.5-hour training will take place in early May. After completing the training, Junior Leaders will volunteer at the weekly Trailblazers sessions at their school.

    • Tuesday: CAMS (2:48 - 5:30pm)
    • Wednesday: Bridgewater Jr High (2:35 - 5:00pm)
    • Thursday: CDS (joining at CAMS dismissal, 2:48pm - 4:30pm)

Interested in participating but not a student at a participating school? As long as you can get a ride to where the program takes place, you can apply to volunteer (homeschoolers welcome)!

Please note that this program is application-based (not first-come, first served) and spaces are limited to 2-4 Junior Leaders per school. Applicants will be notified if they have been accepted within one week of applying. Those accepted will be sent a volunteer waiver to complete and provided with more details on the program.

Trailblazers is a fun, outdoor-based program with the goals of increasing physical activity, inspiring connection to nature throughout the seasons, and developing outdoor and leadership skills. The program will run rain or shine!

This spring, we are offering Trailblazers for grades 5-6 on Tuesday afternoons, starting on April 30. The program leaders will meet participants at Chester Area Middle School at dismissal (2:48 PM). We will walk to a wooded area near CAMS to explore the natural world.

Every week, we will play active games, eat a healthy snack, do a focus activity (outdoor skill or nature exploration), and have dirt time (this is what we call free play). The key components will be consistent but each day will be different! We will walk back to CAMS for pickup at 5:30 PM in the parking lot.
